The caddis variant trout fly has been around for a long time, and is an effective fly at imitating adult caddis as they return to lay eggs. The silhouette of this dry fly is slightly different than the standard elk hair caddis, and is an excellent alternative fly pattern to try when the standard elk hair caddis won't produce strikes.
