That said, it's often recognized as a midge cluster or a terrestrial, such as an ant, but either way you want to look at it, just know it catches fish. Like the Bivisible, the Renegade is easy to see in most light situations, floats well and even skates when greased or dressed with floatant.

Jack didn't just make the pattern a parachute, he made a better parachute and gave a nod to the originator by keeping the split calf tail wing. This pattern never disappoints.

View full detailsThe Trico Mayfly (Tricorythodes Minutus) vary in size from #18 to #24. Males emerge in the evening, and spend the night in a local shrub along the river. Females hatch in the morning, and become spinners within several hours. While the females hatch, the males molt into spinners, forming a massive cloud of flying trout food. Trout will begin to feed on these tiny mayflies as they fall to the water, the females to lay eggs, the males, spent. The trick to catching fish during the trico hatch is to cast your fly in the exact feeding lane of a trout. Because of the sheer abundance of available food, rising trout will seldom move laterally to eat. Use 6x or smaller tippet.

Sulphurs usually hatch in the evening, (although they can hatch mid-day on cloudy days) early in the season, with prolific numbers of mayflies hatching at a time. If this pattern doesn't produce, trail a PMD Emerger (available in our nymph store) behind a dry fly.
