Leeches are a high protein meal for fish. While many of us think about leeches as the large, worm-like slugs we saw in the classic Stand By Me, most freshwater leeches are small, highly active swimmers. Landon's choice of micro pine squirrel and osterich herl mimic both of these characteristics in a way that is often irresisable to fish. Consider all colors -- Brown, Black, and Rust. This fly has loose hair around the thorax that simulate the legs of an aquatic insect, and a tungsten bead which will sink the nymph quickly into the deep zone where the big fish hang out. The Tungsten Bead Hare's Ear Nymph is a must in a fly fisherman's fly box.
